The KEL Electrical Machines Ltd. (KEL EML) is a Public Sector Undertaking fully owned by the Kerala State government. This ISO 9001 : 2015 complaint company provides basic engineering services / products besides executing projects of national significance for high profile clients like the various defence establishments.
The company manufactures and markets products like general purpose and special brushless alternators, DG set and Induction Motors.
The product categories for defence applications include high frequency alternators, special alternators and power backups. The company has also supplied special alternators to the Army (Military Power Cars) and Air Force (Radar Applications).
Our major clients like the BHEL, Indian Railways and various defence establishments besides the general market clients.
Brief History:-
- The firm started as one of the manufacturing unit of Kerala Electrical & Allied Engg.Co.Ltd.(KEL), a Govt. of Kerala Public Sector Enterprise.
- The Kasaragod unit of KEL was acquired by BHEL and named BHEL Electrical Machines Ltd (BHEL EML), as a Joint Venture between Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.(BHEL) and Government of Kerala in 2011.
- According to NITI Aayog recommendations, BHEL’s equity was taken over by the Govt. of Kerala in 2022, and the Company re-started its operations with a name change to KEL Electrical Machines Ltd.(KEL EML), as a Govt. of Kerala Public Sector Enterprise (PSU).
- In Kerala State, KEL EML is the only RDSO Approved manufacturer/supplier of 500 kVA Power Car DA sets/Alternators and its spares .
